The “Nature Zone”Oak School children explore and learn in "the Nature Zone" during lunchtime on Wednesdays and Fridays. Most activities occur in the Edible Garden, with additional projects in the Creative Play & Educational Garden. Our team plans and runs these hands-on science programs for the children, and also plans and implements improvements to the school landscaping. Wednesdays: Children can drop in and enjoy a variety of hands-on science activities focused on nature and the gardens. Activities will vary week by week, and include planting seeds, tending the garden, harvesting and tasting the products of the garden, observing the plant lifecycle and the creatures in the garden, tending the wormboxes, nature-themed art projects, checking bird nesting boxes, and more. The children can stop by, explore the garden, and participate in one activity, or in all of them. No sign-ups are necessary. Fridays: The garden will be open for the children to explore during lunchtime. (No program.) Whether you have very little or a lot of garden knowledge, we'd welcome your help! Send an e-mail to Ann Hepenstal and she’ll help you find a volunteer role that fits your schedule.
